Technical information

Kits de transmission pour motos

A chain kit or a transmission kit comprises 3 components :

  • 1 front sprocket in high strengh steel.
  • 1 rear sprocket
    • either in aluminium T6, Ergal 7075;
    • either in C45 cteel (hardness 60Kg);
    • either in C45H steel (hardness 130Kg);
  • 1 chain with or without O'ring with clip fastener or rivet fastener.
The chain kits are delivered with the original number of teeth, i.e. the ideal proportion reommended by the manufacturer for an optimum use of the motorcycle.

It is generally possible to change this proportion. How? To increase the peak speed or to reduce the engine speed, you had 1 tooth to the front sprocket or take off 2 teeth from the rear sprocket. Inversely, to drive at high speed, you need to withdraw 1 tooth from the front sprocket or add 2 teeth to the rear sprocket.

Be carefull, as such changes can sometimes involve disadvantages: extend the chain, add or take away on average more or less 2 links for 2 teeth. First of all, contact your mechanic or supplier.

Practical information

How to find you chain kit ?

  • Choose
    • the brand ;
    • the model ;
    • the engine size.
  • Tick the right type in the list
  • Choose the type of the chain: in any case the sprockets are identical, only the chain can be changed.
  • If you don't find your model, go to the website www.jtsprockets.com section catalogue ONLINE, or send us your accurate plan.
We identify the recommended kit. However, you are still free to choose a higher quality, which would mean an increase in the number of kilometers to cover.

We strongly advise against a clip facstener beyond 500cc. The rivet fastener is always recommended and must be attached with a special riveting device. If you don't have this device, leave the assembly to a qualified mechanic.

How to look after you chain kit ?

  • Regularily lubricate the chain slightly, the axles and the o'ring joints with a quality chain spray.
  • Check the tension shortly after the assembly and then every 2 or 3000km, according to the suspension with the pilot on the motorcycle. A sag between 20-30 mm is generally a good solution.
  • The stronger the tension, the higher the risk that the chain will extend and break. On the contrary a low tension will cause a quick wear-out of the sprockets.
  • Check the alignment front sprocket - chain - rear sprocket, ideally with our laser Proficat device.
